We're pleased to announce that Bushnell-Prairie City School District has partnered with the City of Bushnell and the Bushnell Police Department to provide a school resource office for B-PC Schools. A section titled, "Student Privacy" has been added to the District's Return-to-Learn Plan. The District provides and supports digital tools for teachers that enable access for remote learners and their parents/guardians during the school day. These videos are then housed in a secure platform designed to safeguard privacy and security. Students and parent/guardians are prohibited from making recordings of classrooms, teachers, and students. The question is not, "What are they trying to hide?" The answer to that question is, "Nothing, our teachers are working hard to provide quality instruction in the most difficult of situations, across all subjects, in a manner that makes learning accessible to all of our students." The question should be, "Who are they trying to protect?" The answer to that question is, "Everyone." Students and staff in our schools and classrooms are entitled to privacy (by law). Anyone who records classrooms outside the school setting is violating privacy as well as student records law." Thank you for your understanding and your cooperation as we move forward in unfamiliar and ever-changing circumstances. We hope to be able to maintain these efforts to support hybrid learning. The Bushnell-Prairie City School District 170 Parent-Student Handbook is now online and can be accessed on our district website in the left-hand menu on each school page. You may also access the handbook by clicking here. We hope to make this process easier for you this year. If you are a current parent or guardian, please take a moment to review the handbook with your child(ren) and complete the acknowledgement page electronically by clicking on this link before Friday, September 4, 2020.
It is with regret that we announce the resignation of long-serving board member, Mark Ferguson. Mark was first elected in 2011 and helped guide the district through troubling financial times due to prorations in funding by the State of Illinois and through consolidation talks and voting in 2013. We are grateful for the time he served his school community; his influence and leadership will be missed. His seat will be filled by appointment. A committee of board members and the superintendent will be conducting interviews to fill the vacancy created by this resignation, with future appointment anticipated by the entire board of education.
We welcomed over 50 attendees to our virtual Return-to-Learn Community Meeting hosted on Friday, July 31. Thank you to all who joined us. For those of you unable to make it, please click on the following link for a recording of the information shared that evening.
