B-PC Junior High Principal's Message

Picture
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year!  I am so excited to get started, and I am looking forward to serving junior high students, staff, and families again this year. It is an exciting time to be a student at B-PC Junior High School. Raising student achievement remains our top priority and many efforts are being made to ensure student success. We currently use a 12-period academic schedule that emphasizes math, literature, and language arts by providing extra time each day to focus on those subjects. We monitor student progress regularly through STAR assessments that help us track student growth in reading and math. Those results are helpful to us in determining which students might need extra assistance throughout the year using our multi-tiered system of support for students. Students participate in Literature Workshops that provide them with 33 minutes of free-reading time each day to help build their reading skills. If one chooses, they can take Chorus, Art, and Agriculture in addition to the general curriculum which includes Math, Science, Social Studies, Literature, Language Arts, and Physical Education. Students not taking these elective courses will be assigned a Power Hour where they will spend time building their skills in math and reading using Zearn and MyOn, which are programs designed specifically to help students in areas where they want to improve academically. We currently provide tutoring for students both before and after school and will continue to provide peer tutoring for students seeking extra help during the school day. Our school has adopted Amplify for use in our literature courses and Engage New York to increase student achievement in math. These are proven curricula that are challenging and meet the needs of every student. Our students were the 2022 Regional Champions in Scholastic Bowl which continues a tradition of excellence from our academic teams.

Students will be allowed to enter the building for breakfast at 7:45, our school day will begin at 8:00 am, and students will be dismissed at 3:05 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  We will, once again, dismiss an hour early, at 2:05, each Wednesday to support teacher development. Our staff continues to grow as we have been able to add staff to help meet the needs of our students in all academic areas. I am proud of the staff at B-PC Junior High School, and I am amazed by the hard work and dedication they bring to our school each day.

Education is my passion.  I have served the Bushnell-Prairie City Junior High School community for 25 years, and it is my mission to continue to make a positive impact on the social, emotional, and academic growth of our students.  Please reach out to me with questions, concerns, or ideas for providing a top-notch education for ALL B-PC Junior High School students.  I am thankful for your support, and I am #Proud2BPC!

Let’s have another great year!
